Blog Commenters Check List
If you are thinking of using blog commenting to get your blog out there.. I’ve put together a handy check list to help you on your way..
(1) Firstly, you need to remove the “no follow” tags from your own blog. If you are running a wordpress blog, check out Semiologics “do follow” plugin. If you are running on another platform, you can get hints and tips from Andy Beard’s extremely useful page on removing “do follow” from blogger, typepad etc. Turn on askimet spam filter if you haven’t already.
(2) Next, you need to advertise that you have removed the “no follow” from your blog. Firstly, put up a “do follow” badge on your blog. Randa Clay has made some that you can use.
(3) Make a post on your blog announcing to your readers that you have removed “no follow” from your comments.
(4) Get listed on the “do follow blogs directory“, and other blog directories.
(5 - optional) Join the Bumpzee community for “i follow” blogs.
(6) The next thing to do is to start comenting on other people’s blogs.
You can find blogs in blog directories, on technorati, and by searching for them on google. Only blogs that have no “no follow” tag will give you any boost with google, so you are better off trying to target these blogs from the start.
“Do follow” blogs can be found on some blogs blogrolls, such as Randa Clay’s, Ponn’s, the bumpzee community, or if you would prefer to target your own niche, check out the “do follow” blogs directory, that you should have already submitted your blog to.
(Secret Tip 1: Google loves to see organic growth in links. So commenting on a few blogs a day, rather than doing a blitz and commenting on many blogs all in one go, will give you better linky love. Sign up for the “do follow blogs directory” RSS feed or via email, and have a few blogs sent to you every day. Make it a part of your daily routine to comment on the blogs you receive every day.)
(Secret Tip 2: If you are commenting on a blog that is in the same niche as yours, which post do you comment on? There are often many posts that you could easily comment. Well, it would seem that Google attaches more importance to pages that already have page rank, and the posts that have page rank are more likely going to be the older posts. So you might decide to comment on the “pillar” or foundational articles/posts on that blog, for better search engine recognition of your comment. These foundational posts will also pull more organic traffic of their own, so you may benefit from that as well.)
(Secret Tip 3: If you have written your own foundational article/post, link through to this rather than your homepage, to get the news out there and to get better search engine rankings for that page specifically.)

Thanks for the link-love!
Interesting new blog: DoFollowBlog + directory, cool.
A follow-up post I wrote to the one you linked to above is here: with a bit more history, commentary, and to learn where and how to install the toolbar to “highlight NoFollow links” (one most read the post + comments).
[...] so long) some blogs actually Tag a few DoFollow Blogs to get the Viral Linking going. So, I tagged a very interesting projected I was linked too during this awful bed-rest of mine. And decided to tag new blogs who haev no PageRank, and give you [...]

Nice idea - always been a firm believer in making life better simply because we can - plus I am new blogger so this is sort of beneficial to me
that’s great. we need to support the dofollow movement. let’s just follow readers not advertiser or text link ads. we already giving them free ads space so why should we give them link love.
Great tips! I have learnt a lot. My Search engine ranking will surely improve.
Does anyone know why Do Follow back links show up right away in Yahoo buy not Google? Does Google take more time? I have about 200 back links done over one month, but they only show up in Yahoo. No Google love yet. Also, when I use the link popularity checker on my competitors’ websites, almost none of their links show up in Google either, and these are old sites.
Great post and tips about using do follow blogs for link building. I have to add do follow to my store’s blog.
Thanks a lot for the tips. Gonna start building links in the “right” place, straight away.
Signed up for the bumpzee I follow community, I will see how this goes, hope it help, thanks for the directory and all the great information.
Hey I’m glad I found this site, I’m going to start doing this for all my blogs!
Thanks for sharing the tips. I already joined the directory and the community and i’m so impressed in this movement. I write a short article about this at No No-Follow Movement
Very good, I hate nofollow, and I comment on dofollow blogs every day
I’m a firm supporter of this movement. I believe every blog and site should have the no-follow disabled.
I love comments
Does this really help??? I heard google has a way to find such blogs and not consider comments from them while assigning PR!

Thanks for sharing your secrets… The do follow blogs directory is a really good idea.
Thanks for the sites!
However, many that I’ve looked at are “nofollow”!
There is a great plugin for firfox called “search status.” It allows you to see the “nofollow” urls, and many that are listed here, especially those about business and SEO are NOFOLLOW! Funny!
Goog directory! I know that if I’m spending my time building your blog you ought to share the love….doesn’t seem like many want to share?!?!!?
Commenting is a really good way to increase backlinks, however, some people tends to make spammy comments and there are soooo many of them! Sometimes it good to make lots comment, but we have to make quality comments too, not just “Me too” or “Interesting Blog” or “Interesting Article” Comments
Thanks for the advice. I’m going to make mine a Do-follow blog today.

Thanks for a very well written article - easy to understand and implement your suggestions. I have noticed that more and more dofollow directories are out there in the Googlesphere - pays to keep searching. Keep up the good work!
That was a good advice and a really great tips for the newbies.
Anyway i am wondering if bumpzee really helps, it should not be optional, I think we really need to join the Bumpzee community for “i follow” blogs.
Hi-
I just wanted everyone to know that sticking up a page about no follow has helped get some traffic to the site. A lot of time it’s off topic from my blog main topic, but at lease it starts to get people there.
My direct link to my no-follow page is:
U Comment, I Follow.
Also, another wordpress plugin is called “Nofollow Free.”
I wish this would help to drive better ranking and traffic
This is a great article. I do not know why more blog owners do not make their blogs do follow blogs. If they did, then more people would visit their blogs and the blog owners would get more free content from comments.
I’m going to go do follow too - With moderation of course. I’m providing backlink tactics to website seo’s and just need lots of visitors. If they find me by searching for do follow links - that’s fine by me.
Thanks for the good article.
Mark.
